A few days ago someone told me they were listening to a “Christian” program where the preacher was saying that men need respect and women need love. The foundation of this teaching being that the Bible does not teach wives to love their husbands, but instructs men to love their wives. Subsequently, I learned that the late “Christian” preacher Dr. Myles Munroe was one of the proponents of this teaching.

Later, I went on the internet and found a YouTube video of Dr. Munroe’s entitled “The number one need of a man” published on January 20, 2017. As of my last viewing, it had over 94,000 views, close to 1,800 likes and 22 dislikes.
In this video, which is slightly over four minutes long, Dr. Munroe makes the following statements:
- A man doesn’t want respect, he needs it.
- A man does not need love
- Nowhere in the Bible does it ever say a woman should love a man. It doesn’t exist in scripture.
- A man interprets respect as love
Dr. Monroe quotes Ephesians chapter 5 verses 22 to 33 to affirm his teaching of the duty of husbands to love their wives and conversely for wives to respect their husbands. This lie has No place in the teachings of Christ.
In the New Testament epistle of Titus chapter 2 verse 4 it refutes Dr. Munroe’s assertion that there isn’t any scripture in the Bible which teaches a wife to love her husband. However, for greater context, I will quote from verses 3 to 5:
The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; (Titus 2:3 KJV)
That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, (Titus 2:4 KJV)
To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. (Titus 2:5 KJV)
The commandment given to the Disciples of Christ is to love one another.
This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. (John 15:12 KJV)
And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another. (2 John 1:5 KJV)
Therefore, I ask a simple question: How is it disciples – both male and female — of Christ are called to love one another, but sisters of the faith, once they become wives, are no longer required to love their husbands in Christ?
Charity as it is referred to in the King James (KJV) version of I Corinthians chapter 13 verses 4 to 7, defines the conduct of love. So, should the daughter of Christ, who is now a wife, forfeit the commandment of Christ to love her husband/brother in the faith?
The Lord warned His precious sheep to take heed that no man deceive them?
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. (Colossians 2:8 KJV)
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; (1 Timothy 4:1 KJV)
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. (1 John 4:1 KJV)
Those who seek to serve the Lord in Spirit and in truth will do well if they heed these words.
